Cookies

What this site stores on your device, what each item is for, and how to control it. Everything below was checked against the shop as it runs today.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember things between one page and the next, such as what is in your basket, and helps keep your session secure.

A few things are kept in your browser storage rather than in a cookie. They behave the same way from your point of view, so they are listed here too.

Strictly necessary

These make the shop work. Without them you could not keep a basket or reach the checkout, so they cannot be turned off.

woocommerce_items_in_cart and woocommerce_cart_hash - record that your basket has something in it, and whether its contents have changed. Removed when you close the browser.

wp_woocommerce_session - links your browser to your basket and checkout details on our server. Set when you first add something, and expires after two days.

commercekit-nonce-state and commercekit-nonce-value - security tokens that let the basket update without reloading the page, and stop our forms being misused. Session only.

storeApiNonce, storeApiCartHash and storeApiCartData - browser storage used by the basket and checkout so your items appear without being fetched again.

wc_fragments and wc_cart_hash - a cached copy of the basket, held for the length of your visit so it displays instantly.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit the shop, which pages are read and which links brought people here. It is the only third-party service that sets an analytics cookie on this site.

_ga - tells one visitor apart from another. Expires after two years.

_ga_HT1KRQHBZN - holds the state of your visit for the Analytics property this shop reports to. Expires after two years.

Google Consent Mode is switched on, so the tag is told whether you have accepted or declined before it stores anything. Declining sets analytics storage to denied, and you can change your choice at any time through Cookie preferences in the footer.

We use no advertising cookies. No advertising network, remarketing tag or social platform sets a cookie on this site.

How you reached the shop

Separately from Analytics, our shop software records how you first arrived, so that we can see which pages and links bring people here. This stays on our own servers and none of it identifies you personally.

sbjs_first and sbjs_current - the referring site, search term or campaign for your first visit and your most recent one.

sbjs_first_add and sbjs_current_add - the date and time, and the page you landed on.

sbjs_session and sbjs_udata - how many pages you have seen during this visit, plus basic browser information.

sbjs_migrations - a housekeeping value used when the storage format changes.

These are first-party cookies set by the shop itself and they expire after six months. Blocking cookies for this site removes them, and the shop still works normally without them.

Cookies set by other companies

Three services we rely on may set their own cookies when you use the part of the site they power:

Google, through Google Analytics, as described above.

Stripe, our payment processor, at the checkout, to secure the payment and check for fraud. It sets __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid.

ParcelPanel, on the order tracking page.

Those are governed by the privacy policies of the companies concerned rather than by ours.

Controlling cookies

Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer to accept or decline analytics at any time. Every browser also lets you view, delete and block cookies for a particular site; look for Privacy or Site settings in your browser preferences.

Please note that blocking the strictly necessary cookies listed above will stop the basket and the checkout from working, which makes the shop unusable.

If you live in California you may also ask us not to sell or share your personal information. We do neither, so there is nothing to switch off, but any request is honoured and recorded.

Changes to this page

We update this page whenever a cookie is added or removed. The date it last changed is at the foot of the page.
